- Enabling clipboard access on a remote desktop server
Enabling clipboard access on the local computer
The first thing you need to do is make sure your local computer allows remote desktop access to your clipboard. Your clipboard, of course, is where your copied data is kept. For this tutorial, we will use Windows native Remote Desktop Connection as the client.
Open Remote Desktop Connection
First, you need to open the Windows native RDP client for Remote Desktop Connection. You can either run it from the Start menu or type it in the Application Launcher (Win+R) box:
mstsc.exe
Open the Options panel

Click the Show Options button to make the Settings panel visible.
Switch to Local Resources

From the tabs at the top of the panel, find and click the one that reads Local Resources.
Enable Clipboard Access

Under “Local devices and resources” you can see a checkbox on the right side for Clipboard access. Please confirm that’s checked and enabled.
Enable Access to Drives
If you plan to copy/paste files between two computers, you need to allow access to your disk drive. To do this, first, you need to click on the More… button under “Local devices and resources”.

In the new panel, make sure there is a checkmark next to the drive, as you can see in the screenshot above. Click OK when it’s done.

gpedit.msc
This will open the editor, which should look like the screenshot below:

Using the left sidebar, navigate to the following URL or address:
“Computer Configuration” > then “Administrative Templates” > then “Windows Components” > then “Remote Desktop Services” > then “Remote Desktop Session Host” > then “Device and Resource Redirection”

From the right side, select the policy item titled “Do not allow clipboard redirection” and double-click.
